The founding owner of Eagle Outdoor Sports, Rex Mumford, began the company in 1985. It all started as a hobby that went wild. Rex had enjoyed river rafting for many years having taken
family and friends on the river with him. At the conclusion of a trip, a friend said, "You should do this commercially." The suggestion was acted upon and after spending a year getting authorization and
licenses, Eagle Outdoor Sports began commercial operation. More up to date equipment was added over the next few years as the business grew. As newer and safer equipment was added, the number of trips run
each season increased. Yet, one common goal remained. Rex wanted to continue to personally be involved and guide on every trip. For the next several years, Rex guided every trip. As more and
more guests joined Eagle Outdoor Sports on the river, a request for more serious and challenging whitewater was often expressed. Rex had explored several options when an opportunity came to him to expand Eagle
Outdoor Sports into Dinosaur National Monument. It was a perfect match. Rex loved the canyons of Dinosaur. The Green and Yampa rivers, in Dinosaur National Monument, are spectacular and offer that
desired challenging whitewater. In order to expand the business, a friend and fellow river runner, Doug Smith, joined Rex as a partner in the business. Even with the expansion, Rex or Doug wanted to
personally be along on every trip. To this date, that goal has continued with few exceptions. Where some companies grow beyond the vision of their founder, Eagle Outdoor Sports continues to operate, by
choice, as a small outfitter. We continue to take youth groups, family groups, as well as individuals down the river, yet we never book so many trips that we lose the fun of what it's all about. Although the
Park Service will allow trips of up to twenty five guests, we prefer smaller group sizes that average around fourteen guests. At the conclusion of every trip, our guest are like family. These friendships
have continued for years. We believe that our way of doing business is why most of our business is repeat or direct referral. Although the Green and Yampa Rivers offer exciting and challenging whitewater,
we like to emphasize much more than just the whitewater. Dinosaur National Monument offers its visitors a unique opportunity to explore the history of the area and those that visited these canyons in the
past. Additionally, the geologic formations of the canyons within Dinosaur National Monument are a treasure as one can observe literally millions of years of geologic changes and formations. We enjoy
hiking in the canyons and sharing the beauties of the canyons with our guests. We camp along the banks of the river where we go to sleep and wake up to the sounds of the river. We take care of all the
meal preparations serving three delicious meals a day. Our breakfasts include blueberry pancakes, sausage or bacon, fresh melons, with juice and coffee (upon request). Our lunches include our famous Green
River roast chicken salad. Our dinners include dutch oven specialties like barbecued ribs or chicken stir fry. To top off our dinners, we have dutch oven cobbler or strawberry shortcake. There's
always plenty of food at every meal. Safety is our highest concern for our guests. Most of our rookie guides have spent at least a year apprenticing where they do not take guests in their rafts. Although
we have an excellent safety record, there are risks associated with whitewater rafting and the activities that go along with multiple day rafting trips. However, we do everything we can to assure our guests'
safety and enjoyment while on our trips. We would love to share the wonders of the Green or Yampa Rivers in Dinosaur National Monument with you! |
